Symptoms of Asbestosis

In most of the cases, it takes more time for symptoms to appear after the actual exposure of asbestos fibers, sometimes this window period can extend for almost 10 years to 20 years. Some of the common symptoms seen in asbestosis are

  • Shortness of breath
  • Persistent and productive cough
  • Distressing spasm
  • Chest pain or feeling of tightness in chest
  • High reduction in appetite
  • In rare cases Clubbing of fingers can be found

Deep understanding of Asbestosis

The best way through which these asbestos fibers make way in to the lungs is through the trachea and in to the lungs where they finally land up in alveoli. Due to the certain biochemical and physiological activities within the body many fibers are removed but those left out can cause serious problems to alveoli causing scar tissues. When these scars spreads I more parts of the lungs and affects more number of alveoli lungs becomes heavier affecting and hampering the activities of alveoli. These further lead to decreased flexibility and elasticity of the lungs causing lungs to work more, subsequently lung muscle fatigue and pulmonary hypertension may occur.
